"Propagate Your Own Plants"
Due to the popularity of this class, signup is now available for 2011. A $25 deposit will hold your place in the class of your choice. This is refundable. Balance will be due three weeks prior to the class.
Registration is $75 per student, which covers all materials. Take home triple the cost of this course in plant material for your own garden! Students may leave their propagation trays in the nursery cold frame for a few weeks while the cuttings root.
If you are part of a group of 6-8 students who would like to schedule a class on another date, please contact Carolyn at 530-272-4362.
A "hands-on" class where students learn the secrets of making vegetative cuttings. Students are allowed to take cuttings from any plant in the garden, including rare shrubs, perennials, alpines and vines. All plants are labelled by the instructor.
The site for the class is the location of the former Foothill Cottage Gardens, where a perennial nursery specializing in deer-resistant plants offered hundreds of perennials for 25 years. Many of the plants in the display gardens are mature specimens. Carolyn Singer, the founder of the original Foothill Cottage Gardens, is the instructor for this class.
Classes are held at 13925 Sonntag Road in Grass Valley. From Hwy. 174 (between Colfax & Grass Valley) turn north on You Bet Rd., go 1.3 miles to a right turn on Sonntag, then 0.3 mi. to a left at 13925 Sonntag. If you are coming from the Auburn area, do not take Hwy. 49 to Grass Valley; instead, take I-80 to Colfax and Hwy 174 toward Grass Valley. The turn for You Bet Road is approximately 7 miles from Colfax. Also, do not turn on Sonntag Hill Road off You Bet Road. The next road to the right, Sonntag Road, is the correct turn.
